"Single Vineyard Wines" are wines produced using grapes harvested from the same (hence: single) vineyard and in some occasions even the same plot within the vineyard
The Golan Heights Winery recently launched two new Cabernet Sauvignon vinos, both from the 2011 vintage. While both are labeled as part of the winery's Yarden series and both are comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and share similar flavor/aroma profiles, they are quite different.
At the launching event, after introducing the wines and the winemakers, Golan Heights' CEO, Ms. Anat Levy discussed the new developments and updates at the winery and also mentioned: "2011 is proving to be a very good year and I am particularly excited to launch these two vinos – the classic Cabernet Sauvignon Yarden and the El Rom, Single Vineyard Cab that only comes out every few years". Levy’s words were followed by an impressive presentation from head winemaker Victor Schonfeld who provided insights and information on the vineyards and weather conditions in recent years, showing how these also impact the grapes and of course, the wine.

These wines are intended to reflect the traits and characteristics of a specific vineyard and provide an opportunity to assess the impact of a very specific terroir on the end result.

Still firm so allow sometime to aerate in the glass and if you have patience, would be good to cellar for a few more years. The wine is already showing plenty of character, full bodied and good structure on the palate, suggesting layered notes of black fruits particularly currants and cherries followed by fresh herbs, pepper and thyme all coming together nicely on the long finish.

Often used as a quality benchmark/reference to Israeli wines, the Yarden Cab 2011 is up to par with previous releases. Opens nicely to reveal pleasant notes of dark berry fruits, cherries and fresh herbs with a hint of roasted coffee in the background. Full bodied, good supporting acidity and a long finish. Overall, this is a very enjoyable vino and similar to its counterpart, should develop nicely over the next few years.
