Karma

Karma's menu exposed a world of starters, and we opened with one huge focaccia fresh and hot from the taboon, served with grilled eggplant and pepper, as well as pesto, sun-dried tomato and Labaneh cheese spreads

Even though it might seem as if Tel Aviv has it all, sometimes a good reason to leave comes up. Because one thing is missing from the big city and that is Jerusalem's Ein Kerem neighborhood. Early evening, we managed to get a table at Karma restaurant's porch, a great starting point for a wonderful evening.

Karma offers Italian food and more. The huge Taboon oven standing at its center turns every pastry into a wonderful experience, and upgrades each dish. The restaurant is wide and large, and it holds, aside for intimate meals, private events for up to 64 guests.

We climbed up the stairs and sat at our table on the porch where we could see the hilly landscape. The weather was perfect, a great combination of summer warmth and Jerusalem's cool breeze.

Karma's menu exposed a world of starters, and we opened with one huge focaccia fresh and hot from the taboon, served with grilled eggplant and pepper, as well as pesto, sun-dried tomato and Labaneh cheese spreads. 2 other starters were Druse roll – rolled pita bread filled with meat, grilled eggplants and pine cones, served with tahini sauce. We also had the salmon ceviche, which was served beautifully with olive oil and lemon on a bed of avocado and garden rocket leaves, next to toasted bread.

After a short rest, our appetite opened up again at the site of our main courses. The next superb dish was wrapped in a special packaging: seafood stew in a pottery plate with tomato and seafood pasta, covered by a taboon pita. To reveal the dish, we had to slowly nibble the steaming hot cover, which created a wonderful eating experience. The pasta inside was delicious, and the seafood combination - exciting. Our other main course, taken from the specials menu, was red drum fish in butter and lemon sauce.

Karma's dessert of course made me admire the restaurant even more: waffle Bueno rolls, filled with nougat cream and coated with chocolate. As it was midnight already, we had to take our coffee to go. Karma's confectioner has labored over the restaurant's desserts, and her variety of cookies is available for sale.

Karma restaurant in Ein Kerem neighborhood integrates wonderfully with the hilly landscape, and offers a creative menu made of high quality produce; you might want to visit while traveling in the area. Karma's club offers more advantages, and all diners are welcome to enjoy business lunch. I'll be back.
