Dublin in Jerusalem is open for business every night from 5pm into the wee hours of the night, attempting to become a second home to its regular crowd.
The impressive heavy wood decoration includes the bar chairs, tables and, of course, the bar itself. All of these give the pub an Irish look and feel.
The people who visit this pub reflect the city's population multiplicity: youngsters (but over the age of 22), older people (over the age of 60), students, embassy workers, travelers from abroad and regulars who come almost every night.
Like in an Irish pub, the atmosphere is crucial. Every night, from 5pm to 8pm, Irish music is played. During the weekends, things become even more vibrant, and Mondays are live shows nights. We got to listen to a local group playing its own material as well as covers for Israeli known singers, Eric Clapton and even Pink Floyd.
Dublin's beer gets special treatment, which is not easy considering the fact that 19 brands are being served here. Unlike other pubs, where the barrels are kept under the counter, Dublin has a refrigerated room where the beers are kept at a temperature of 4-9 degrees. Through under floor pipes, the beer gets to the taps. The entire system is cleaned weekly to prevent sediment accumulation which causes aftertaste. From 5pm to 8pm Happy Hour is on, and this is a great opportunity to get 1 liter of beer for the price of 500cc.
Dublin also offers 50 kinds of global beers. All in all there are more than 300 kinds of alcohol, while the whiskey department sets the tone, with a fair representation for all kinds: Irish, Canadian, smoked from Islay, and more.
Dublin's offered food suits the beer: fried dishes, grilled meat and special toasts. Fried and crispy chicken nuggets are coated with beer mixture, and served with thin chips – all of these are great with cold beer.
Another excellent dish is the potato chips: quarters of unpeeled spicy potatoes, so simple yet addictive.
And Dublin's burger: fresh bun, fresh vegetables and thin chips. The burger is cooked to medium-rare perfection, and the fresh bun absorbs the meat's juice.
