In the midst of one of Jerusalem's livelier areas, just off Hillel street, in the city center, lies the Bell Wood bar.
The bar is pretty spacy, with bells and wooden decorations creating a nice atmosphere. Nice music playing in the background allows you to actually hear yourself think occasionally, which is a nice thing if you just drop in for a beer… when you get drunk you don't feel a thing anyhow.

It carries 120 different brands of whiskey, ranging from single and pure malts, through bourbons, and all the way to Tennessee whisky such as Jack Daniels.
If you want to choose from a wide variety of Whisky, or just feel like stopping by for a drink, Bell Wood bar might be the place for you, it's a bit hidden unless you know what you are looking for, but ask around for the Cat's Square and the Bar is just a few steps away.
While you are passing by, Cat's square has a bit of a history too. It's officially called after a pre-independence war Israeli commander, but it known to everyone as Cat's square – I've passed there often enough… No cats about. I asked an old resident of Jerusalem why this is the case and he said there was a large garbage dump there some 40 years ago that attracted the city cats and the name stuck.
Today, of course, there is no garbage to be found anywhere in the city center, but Cat's square is a place where jewelry, art, and other miscellaneous items are sold daily over display stands. The square (circle really), also has widening circles drawn on it, and if you stand in the center you'll hear magnificent echoes from every direction.
Finally, just across the street, the cornerstone of the Museum of Tolerance was laid.
This museum, built by the Wiesenthal center, has a twin building in Los Angeles. Work is supposed to be completed by 2010.
Jerusalem is a magnificent city – just think of all this history while sipping a cool beer in Bell Wood bar !
